Extend your stay

Keen to stay on in Sweden? It may be possible to extend your permit or become a Swedish citizen.

Extending a work permit

If you would like to keep working beyond the period of your current work permit, you can apply for an extension. This is done through the Migration Agency and the fee is SEK1,000, if you are extending to work with the same employer. If you have had a work permit for six months or more, and apply before your existing permit expires, you can keep working while waiting for the decision. You can read more about the requirements and how to apply on the Swedish Migration Agency's website.
